PRACTICE TOOL

Evidence Check

Your mind may be using old evidence to describe who you are now.

“I always mess things up.” “I never finish anything.” “I’m not confident.” “I can’t trust anyone.” “I’m just an angry person.” “I’ll never change.”

2–3 minutes
STEP 1

Finish: “I believe that I am…” or “I believe that I can’t…” Be specific.

STEP 2

Do not pretend the past did not happen. What experiences make this belief feel true?

STEP 3

When have you acted differently? What have you survived, completed or learned? Do not exaggerate. Look for real evidence.

STEP 4

Is this true in every situation? Not fake positive thinking. Find a more accurate statement.

STEP 5

What small action would make the old belief slightly less true today?

YOUR SUMMARY

Evidence Check

The old belief
Evidence that supports it
Evidence I have ignored
A more honest belief
The action that will create new evidence

After you do it

The old blueprint may have been drawn over years. You do not redraw it with one positive sentence. You redraw it through repeated evidence. My past is evidence of where I have been. My actions today are evidence of who I am becoming.
